Holiday In Korykos Turkey

Korykos (Kizkalesi) is a Turkish city in the Mersin Province, whose existence is traced as far back as 191 BCE. In times past, Korykos was known for its commercial exploits and economic opportunities. Their fame attracted the Romans who consequently conquered it during the middle ages. The Romans used its strong bases to monitor piracy activities over the Mediterranean Sea.

Today, the city is an international attraction because of its ancient ruins and historical places that stretch hundreds of yards. The medieval coastal castles are the main attraction. The Maiden Castel, from which the name Korykos (Kizkalesi) is derived is one of the most popular attractions. Other tourist sites include the remains of the Christian tombs, the relic plateaus, cisterns, aqueducts and the basilicas that date back from the Necropolis and Byzantine era.

Korykos (Kizkalesi) is a wonderland and the antiquity takes your imagination back to the ancient days. It is a great place to spend a vacation. The Mediterranean with its fine sandy beaches, beautiful motels and seafood restaurants are a great place to relax in the evenings, after spending the day roaming the ruins at the outskirts of the city.

Adjacent to the Three Graces museum is the Cennet, a location full of chasms, and a 5th century chapel whose name, the Cehennem means 'Heaven'. One of the main attractions around Narlikiyu is the Wishing Cave, a site full of stalactites and stalagmites.

Travelers who visit the Castles and the museums pay a small entrance (maintenance) fee. Visitors can also take a boat out to sea to reach the other castles across the sea. Out in the hills of Korykos (Kizkalesi) are the ancient Christian tombs adjacent to the Devil's Valley.

Mersin province also referred to as the 'Paradise and Hell' province, has many cultural and religious sites. The pits, caves, the Christian and polytheist temples are all major tourist attractions. The local people also love visiting these sites. The experience helps them connect with the past. Paradise Pit or the Korykos Cave is in particular one of the wonders of region and the country at large. It is an exciting place to visit for some, while others find it quite frightening.

As a protected city, Korykos (Kizkalesi) boasts some of the most beautiful hotels and places to stay. Visitors can stay at major hotels around the town. The residents are also very kind and visitors are welcome to lodge with them in their homes. The authorities also permit outside camping for those who love the great outdoors.
