subject: Weight Loss - The Myth And The Reality [print this page] Weight Loss is a huge industry, it is being estimated that the US spends around 55 billion USD per year. Every Joe who knows how to run a website or post articles in a blog will look out for a pie in this huge industry, so people who wish to lose weight should not blindly follow what is being written around in the internet or what the so called experts and guru keep repeating. There is huge money to be made in this industry so invariably people will keep selling their ideas and products.
The biggest misconception, or in other words the biggest conspiracy in this industry is formulating the calorie needs for people. The calorie requirement for everyone is said to be around 2000.
Have you never seen very lean people who eat a lot and plumpy people who starve every day? The experts reason it out as the BMR (or Basal Metabolic Rate) which is not true. The bottom line is calorie sells, because of this propaganda people became highly conscious about the calorie intake, people keep checking the label for the total calories, without being aware of the other things that are not mentioned in the label.
Weight Loss or weight gain has nothing to do with calories. People become overweight, purely because they ignore the rules of nature, they fail to understand their body. Have you ever seen an overweight tiger, lion or deer? They all remain in shape because they live in accordance to the natural laws. When they hunt/ get food, they eat as much as they like, and they starve when they don't have food. When they eat, the nutrition is stored in their body, sugar is stored in the form of fat and when they starve the fat is broken down to give energy. The body consumes energy to convert glucose in to fat and also to break down fat in to energy, these metabolic activities will consume great deal of calories.
Likewise animals don't eat foods that are abnormal to seasons, the important thing is ancient Chinese medicine is not to eat food that are not in sync with the season. What we do? We eat 3 - 4 times a day and we made it as a routine. If we can keep feeding our body regularly with the calories, then what is the need of harmones like insulin and glycogon? Why should be the body perform these action of saving excessive glucose and then breakdown? Instead we can keep feeding our body what exactly is needed.
Just for this reason the ancient Indians followed fasting. When we fast regularly, unknowingly we tune the body in a particular way (The way it was created to function). Now modern researches claims a great deal health benefits and weight loss by coining new terminology for fasting like Crash Diet or IF (Intermittent Fasting). With good amount of water intake if you fast once in four days, you will get a great deal of health benefits. Your metabolic rate will get a boost, you will feel more light and energetic, here the aim is getting healthier and losing weight, losing weight is just a byproduct.
Another thing, which is being preached by everyone is about exercising and running. While they do serve the purpose, two hours of walking at a normal pace (10 miles walking) can burn just 600 calories, while good physical activity is important to be healthy, it should not be done for the sake of losing calories. The real good alternative is doing yogasanas and pranayama. When all your vital organs and glands are performing well, why should you ever worry about your weight? Your body will take care of your weight and will help you stay in shape.
The final things is being a vegetarian, it is not just important to be a vegetarian, but one should know what to eat and what not to eat, if someone claims himself to be a vegetarian and keep eating just potatoes, then there is no point in being a vegetarian.
At Weight Loss Karma, our aim is to share the ideas which will keep people healthy (Weight loss is just a byproduct).
