Different Types Of Fork Lift Trucks

Forklift trucks are versatile pieces of equipment that have many applications in a wide range of industries including warehouses, manufacturing plants, construction sites and building maintenance. There are a number of different types of forklift trucks available that have been designed to carry out specific tasks. The main section of the forklift truck design is the pronged attachment installed on the front of the truck. This attachment is inserted under a balanced load (typically on pallets), then raised above the ground so that it can be easily transported from one site to another. Forklift trucks are used in busy working environments and can have complex controls so safety is a major issue and to operate this type of equipment you will need to be fully trained and certificated.

Types of Forklift Trucks

Forklift trucks are mainly utilised for lifting and transferring loads in material handling industries and different types of trucks have been designed for specific tasks. Forklifts can be split into two main types, electric and internal combustion. Electric forklifts are quiet and emissions free and are used in indoor working environments such as factories and warehouses. Internal combustion forklifts are used for heavy lifting and the more challenging terrain of outdoor construction sites. Here are just a few types of forklift:

Counterbalance these are one of the most common forklift trucks and are widely used for lifting and transporting goods on pallets in storage depots and warehouses.

Reach Trucks these trucks are designed for manoeuvrability in small environments such as the narrow isles of warehouses. They allow operators to pick up loads and then retract them from over the outriggers and can reach heights of up to 40 feet.

Telescopic Trucks these heavy duty trucks can be used in more challenging terrain and are mainly for constructions sites and agricultural use.

Ride on Pallet Trucks these trucks can be used to shift goods over longer distances in storage compounds. The operator stands on a small platform.

Hand truck this is the smallest type of forklift truck and is manually operated using hydraulics. This is designed to move small loads in a limited space and the operator wheels the truck by hand.

Sideloaders this is a standard forklift truck but instead of having prongs on the front these are located on the side for lifting and loaded in specific environments.

You can hire forklift trucks for one-off jobs, or you can buy a good range of both new and used forklifts at competitive prices.
