Gilbert Arenas Should Be The Lakers Number One Target This Summer

There have been rumblings that the Wizards are ready to part with their troubled, former all star guard Gilbert Arenas. With the number one pick in this year's NBA draft the Wizards are poised to select point guard John Wall and make him the face of their franchise. With the selection of Wall Arenas' services and distractions are no longer wanted or needed. If Arenas is bought out the best and most logical destination for him would be to return to his hometown and to play for his childhood favorite team, the Los Angeles Lakers. What better place for Arenas to redeem himself after his idiotic incident that resulted in him being suspended for nearly the entire season and resulted in jail time.

This potential marriage between Arenas and the Lakers could turn out to be a match made in heaven. The Lakers who are now on the cusp of winning back to back championships still have a need to upgrade their backcourt over the summer. They have been looking for a guy who can step into the starting role and take over for Derek Fisher who can then go to the bench in the latter stages of an outstanding career. Gilbert is the perfect solution. Not only can he play the starting point guard position, he can also play back up shooting guard spelling Kobe for long stretches. This will only help to prolong Kobe's career keeping him fresh and able to take over late in games. The plus for the Lakers is they lose nearly nothing with Gil on the court. He's one of the best scoring guards in the league. This would be a complete steal for the Lakers.

Gilbert Arenas is still a top guard in this league and to get him at a discounted price would be amazing. From Gilbert Arenas' perspective this would also be the perfect situation for him. Not only does he get to return home, he will have an opportunity to play for an NBA championship. He'll have an opportunity to play for the NBA "rock star" team where he'll be able to fade a bit into the background while repairing his professional reputation. In the end this is a win/win situation for everyone involved. If he has the opportunity, Gilbert needs to return home. Redemption is awaiting him. What do you think? Would Gil be a great fit with Kobe and the Lakers?
