How Much Should Car Insurance Cost

How much should car insurance cost? This is the same as asking how long is a piece of string! There is no hard and fast answer. It will depend upon a host of different factors and criteria. The following information should allow you to get a broader understanding of how most insurance premiums are calculated, therefore allowing you to reduce the overall cost of your cover.

First of all there is your location. This is a major consideration for an insurer when calculating the cost of a policy. Those of us that live in cities and specifically areas prone to crime and theft would have to pay a lot more for a premium than drivers that live in relatively crime free rural areas. Also such factors as where the vehicle is kept when not in use will also impact the overall price.

How often do you drive? The more time that you spend behind the wheel of your car the greater amount you would be required to pay for your auto insurance. This is simply because those of us that cover a lot of miles each day will be at greater risk of being involved in an accident.

What is your age? Age and experience are two of the most important factors when it comes to auto insurance. If you have only recently acquired your driving license, or if you are under the age of twenty five, then the quotes you will be given would be much higher than for an individual that has many years safe driving under their belt. This is because it is believed by most insurers that a young driver has less road awareness and is therefore at greater risk of being involved in an untoward situation.

Are you married or single? It is believed that a married man or woman will drive more safely as they have dependents and therefore are less likely to take risk. If you are a single male you may often find it difficult to be given affordable insurance quotes.

What type of vehicle do you own? If you have a high powered sporty car that is the envy of the neighborhood then there will be a greater chance of it being stolen than a clapped out fifteen year old motor.

There are other factors which also play a role in the overall cost of an insurance policy. For example it is often cheaper to choose a niche firm that only cater to a specific demographic rather than one of the major insurance players.
