Picking The Right Region For Your Golfing Holiday

Whatever you want from a golf vacation in Ireland, picking the right place can seem difficult, when the choice on offer is so vast. There are fantastic sites in each region of Ireland, each one with its own style and unique history. In the South-West, there is beautiful Lahinch, one of the oldest golf clubs in the country, which overlooks the ocean. Then there is the Old Head of Kinsale, an incredible 220 acre site with holes leading across the cliff tops - not only providing a spectacular view, but also adding an extra challenge to the game.

Across Ireland, in the North-East, is the prestigious and stunning Royal County Down, designed back in 1889 and considered by many to be the best course in the country which would make any golf vacations in Ireland truly memorable. Running along the shores of Dundrum Bay, the course is set in the shadow of the Mountains of Mourne - a truly breathtaking site.

Over in the East, there are a staggering nine courses to play on. From the stunning Island course with its magnificent view of the ocean, to the intriguing Druids Glen course, which was voted European Golf Course of the Year in 2000, there is a site to suit any taste or skill level.

Central Ireland, though only having two courses, has the Slieve Russell and the Heritage both excellent, but there is no doubt that other regions would offer more diverse locations for golf vacations in Ireland. The trick to finding the right region is to take a good long look at each course and decide which appeal most. No one region is better than another they all offer great golfing opportunities - it all just depends on personal taste.
