Personal Alarms - Bells & Whistles

Personal alarms are deterrent devices created to thwart potential attackers. They are smallish devices that emit a loud screeching sound to attract attention. When perpetrators strike, they want to do so as quickly and stealthily as they possibly can. Therefore, creating a loud noise that draws the attention of people going by will cause them to leave you alone and seek out other unprotected prey. Unfortunately, in this day and age, merely screaming for help is not enough. You need a tool that will cause people to stop and look at what's going on. A loud security alarm can help you attract that attention.

Personal alarms range in size and are sometimes multifunctional. The basic units are generally small push button gadgets. Pushing a button activates and deactivates the device. Moderately upgraded units use pin technology to activate and deactivate the alarm. The product is worn on the wrist or body and a cord or pin is pulled to set the alarm off. This type of alarm is good because even if the assailant tries to take it from you, they will not be able to shut it off without the pin. You can also use this alarm to secure doors and windows of hotels and other unfamiliar places.

Multifunctional personal alarms usually provide three or more functions in one. In addition to emitting an alarm, some will have a built in flash light or strobe light, and come with clips that allow you to set them up as a door or window alarm. But a personal alarm can be used for more than deterring a potential attacker. There are also personal alarms made for children that will keep track of them and notify you whenever they leave wander off. This is particularly helpful for homes that have pools as thousands of children die every year from accidentally falling into and drowning in a pool.

A fairly new piece of technology that could save your life is a driver alarm. With many people overworked and underpaid, a lot of them are putting in extra hours at the office. This causes them to drive tired which results in horrible accidents where the driver fell asleep at the wheel. This device is worn on the ear and will sound a startling noise every time the head dips. This is particularly useful for long distance drivers, like truckers. Personal alarms have a variety of uses. Take some time to pick the best one for your needs.
