Tiruchirapalli Travel Destination

Tiruchirapalli which is also Known as Trichy is located in the south Indian State of Kerala. Various attractions of Trichi include

Rock Fort Temple, Government Museum and Viralimalai Sanctuary.

Tiruchirappalli is to be found on the banks of the river Cauvery. In the beginning the city was ruled by the Cholas and later it was under the Pallava rulers. Trichy is a wonderful amalgamation of modernity and tradition and was established around the Rock Fort.

Tiruchirappalli is a significant tourism destination and commercial hub. There is a complex in Tiruchirappalli which consist of 3 temples - the Manikka Vinayakar temple which is at the foot of the hill, the Uchhi Pillayar Koyil temple is at the top of the hill and the Taayumaanavar Koyil temple is on the hill.

Viralimalai, is a small town at a distance of 30 km from Tiruchirappalli. It is a great attraction and is known for its Murugan temple and the Peacock sanctuary.

Sittanavasal, which is a well known site of an ancient Jain monastery is 58 kms from Trichy here one can find fine fresco paintings in a rock cave.

The Sri Ranganathaswami temple at Srirangam which is largest in India is just 7 kms from Trichy and is the home to the Supreme Lord, Sri Ranganatha. Tiruvanaikkaval or Jambukeswara Temple, which is at a distance of 2 km from Srirangam, is a striking Shiva temple, this is an excellent example of architectural design.

Excursions

There are number of excursions destinations at a short distance from Trichy. Some of these well known destinations include the Grand Anicut which is around 24 kms away from Trichy. This is an irrigation dam built across River Cauvery by Karikal Chola in second century AD. This dam was later strengthened by the British.

Mukkombu (Upper Anicut) is another enthralling destination situated at a distance of about 18 kms from Trichy. At this place River Kollidam divides itself from the Cauvery.

At Mukkombu, is another picnic spot with lush green surroundings, the place is loved by children as they get ample of space to play in fresh air. Vayaloor which is almost 8 kms away from Trichy is the venue of Lord Muruga Temple. Samayapuram which is known for Goddess Mariamman is situated about 20 kms away. Puliancholai, is about 72 kms away from Trichy, this is an exotic picnic spot situated in the foothills of the Kolli hills.
