Jim Vandermeer scored his second goal of the game at the 1:18 mark of overtime, Matthew Lombardi also scored and Robert Lang had two assists, leading the Phoenix Coyotes to a 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks. Get Phoenix Coyotes tickets and see Vandermeer score in overtime. Vandermeer said the Ducks outplayed the Coyotes, but Phoenix just "hung in there," kept to their game plan "and kept throwing the pucks at the net." Iiya Bryzgalov made 26 saves for the Coyotes and snapped Anaheim's season-best, three-game winning streak.

The Ducks, who had a 1-0 lead in the third period, allowed the Coyotes to come back into the game. Anaheim goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere admitted that his team did not match Phoenix's intensity. The goaltender continued to say, "We didn't do that and let them come, and they managed a way to score a couple of goals."

Ryan Getzlaf and Bobby Ryan scored for the Ducks, and Giguere made 23 saves. Getzlaf opened the scoring on the power-play when he beat Bryzgalov to the stick side with a 25-foot wrist shot. The forward notched his fourth goal in eight games. Anaheim tied the game at two-all with 1:54 left in regulation when Nick Boynton received the puck from Corey Perry and took a wrist shot from the right point that deflected off Ryan's stick. Ryan was screening Bryzgalov in the low slot when the puck was redirected into the net. Perry extended his points streak to 18 games with an assist on Ryan's tying goal, breaking the franchise record set in 1999 by Teemu Salanne.

Lombardi gave the Coyotes a 2-1 lead with 9:53 left in the third period. The forward made a nifty move, swerving across the front of the crease before he got the puck past Giguere. The goal came less than five minutes after Vandermeer scored into a wide-open net with Giguere out of position. The defenseman was able to score after Giguere made a save on Lang's wrist shot. Coyotes captain Shane Doan acknowledged that the Coyotes "are not an offensive juggernaut as of yet." The captain added that the game was huge for Phoenix since they were able to win on the road. The Coyotes aren't known for their offense, but Vandermeer ended the game with a 35-foot one-timer in overtime. It was his fourth goal of the season.

Vandermeer said Phoenix wasn't down after Ryan scored the equalizer for Anaheim. The defenseman told the press anything can happen in overtime. He praised his team for playing hard and recognized that Phoenix got "a good break." Vandermeer gave credit to Lang for setting him up in overtime. "Lang made a great play and I just put it on net."

Phoenix coach Dave Tippett thought his team executed better in the third period and was able to find a couple of chances to get back into the game. The coach was relieved that the Coyotes didn't take any penalties late in the game since Getzlaf capitalized on the man advantage in the second period. Getzlaf scored while Phoenix defenseman Sami Lepisto served in the penalty box for hooking Perry.
