Van Insurance - The Sheer Irony Of It All
In February, 2010, a certain Mr. Simms received a rather unusual call from the police. They were calling to tell him that they had found his stolen Mercedes van, but that they were unable to return it to him. Dumbfounded, Mr. Simms asked for an explanation, only to be told that the van was parked up at a dangerous travellers' camp-site.
The police department was unwilling to jeopardise the safety of their officers, and told Mr. Simms they would need to initiate a major operation in order to recover the van. Such operations involving Special Forces, together with aerial support, tend to cost a lot of money, and considering it was merely a van they were after, it hardly justified such expenditure. To cut a long story short, Mr. Simms was told to claim from his insurance company.
Luckily, Mr. Simms did have insurance, so of course he could go ahead and make a claim. With everything in order, he soon received compensation and was able to purchase a new vehicle. Even so, the loss of his van meant that he was unable to go about his daily business for a number of days, which of course meant loss of earnings. Once again, because this man had made sure he was adequately covered, his insurance company covered a large percentage of these losses, and he was soon able to resume work.
Now let's think about how things would have played out if Mr. Simms never had any van insurance. With no insurance to fall back on, and the police unwilling to recover the vehicle, Mr. Simms would have been a desperate man. In fact, watching his business crumble in front of his eyes, he would more than likely have been tempted to try and recover the vehicle himself. If the authorities weren't willing to go into that camp-site to recover the van, it's safe to assume the situation in there must be extremely dangerous, so if Mr. Simms went in, he would essentially have been putting his life at risk.
This leads us to ask if it's really worth risking your life for the sake of a van, but of course if that van is the life blood of your business, then you may not really have much of an option, unless of course you're financially capable of buying a new van out of your own pocket.
As you can see, as a business owner, you simply cannot afford to be without the correct type of cover for your van. Even though you need to make sure your van is adequately covered, you also need to focus on keeping the cost of such cover down as much as possible. Fortunately, there are several things you can do in order to ensure you don't pay too much for your policy. For example, make sure your van has an approved alarm system, immobiliser, and even a GPS tracking device.
Furthermore, always try to make sure your van is locked away in a secure area whenever it's not being used. These two steps alone will help you to secure lower rates when you apply for van insurance quotes. Of course there are also several other precautionary measures you can take in order to avoid high premiums, and that's exactly why it pays to do some online research before you make any final decisions. Lastly but not least, get as many quotes as you can, because the more quotes you have, the more chance you have of finding that illusive deal you've been after for so long.
