The Lions of Africa
Most lions in Africa live in groups of about fifteen lions
. They are the only social cats known. Though they live in prides, it is not uncommon to find some loners who roam about solo or in pairs. These are called nomad lions while those who live in groups are called resident lions. Loners have fewer chances of survival that resident lions as they cannot hunt as much as the others. They are also in danger of attack by other animals though lions have few enemies. Male lions can find themselves being nomads when they are kicked out of a group by other stronger males. They need to join another group as soon as possible or risk starvation. The lions of Africa can be found mainly in the sub Saharan Africa, east and south Africa. They hunt very early in the morning, at night and in the late evening when the sun is down. During the day when the sun is hot, you will find them lazing about under tree shades bonding with each other, especially the females whom are all related. The lions of Africa are carnivores and they normally thrive on wild beast, buffalo, giraffe, impala, gazelle and zebra meat. The females are the ones who do most of the hunting. Lions of Africa have been depleted in the years past by human activities such as ritual killing, forest encroachment and deforestation. Conflicts between people and lions have dealt negatively on the lions making them the losers. Drought in most parts of Africa have seen most die from drought related ailments.The Lions of Africa
