Moving means having a new environment as well as meeting new people and adjusting to the new place
. Children are the most affected in the family by moving. Some are not yet used to the surroundings of the new place so they need to adjust. They need to adjust to the new place and get along with other children. Before you decide to move, it is important that you tell them the reason why you are moving and explain to them so that they fully understand.Adults adjust easily to new places as compared to children. They should pay attention to their children and give them time when moving. Parents should know how moving affects their children and understand them. Infants and toddlers are not much affected when moving because their attention is still on the family. However, it is also important to give attention to your children to avoid some negative implications of moving. Be calm and patient in explaining further and understanding your children.
If your child is in pre-school, explain to him or her why you move. They think that their friends will also move when you move. Explain to them that they will still have friends even if you move to a new house. They can also experience emotional problems that can affect their studies and daily activities inside the house and at school. Let them understand the reason and give them time to adjust. As much as possible, allow them to hang around the neighborhood so that they can find a new friend.
Children who are going to school may find moving both emotional and exciting. They know that parting with their neighbors and friends is emotional but they know that they will meet new friends and neighbors. Children in this stage still want to have friends for playing and hanging out. A party with friends and neighbors can lessen the pain in leaving the old house. You can also enjoy having pictures with your friends for the memories and times with the old home.
Teenagers are the most affected in the family. They have friends whom they will miss especially the bonding moments with their friends and the memories. They can experience emotional problems about parting with their friends. Some of them have opinions about moving and their feelings would feel bad. Respect their feelings and consider their opinions in moving to a new house.
Explain to your children and tell them the rules of the new house for them to understand and adjust. Tell them that they can have new friends to get along with in the neighborhood. They can enjoy the company of their neighbors and have the chance to find new friends. Nevertheless, it is also important to allow them to visit their friends in your former house to tell them what you did in your new house and chat with them about your new house. It will make your children feel good hanging out with their old friends even if they move to a new house.
