Something as common as eggs and pancakes for breakfast can produce allergic reactions for about one in 25 Texans

. Surprisingly, those foods actually include eight ingredients that could result in deadly reactions for thousands of people living in northern Texas. To compound the problem, people are often sensitive to different allergy sources and have a range of symptoms, such as asthma, itching, rashes, sneezing, sniffles, and swelling.

Most allergic reactions from food occur after eating eight common foods: eggs, fish, milk, peanuts, shellfish, soy, tree nuts or wheat. You'll usually experience symptoms within a couple of hours after eating, but some people react within minutes. Food allergies can induce anaphalactic shock, which can be deadly without immediate medical intervention.

What Does Texas Health Insurance Offer Allergy Sufferers?

To solve the puzzle and identify the cause of allergies, you'll need a primary care physician or an allergist and allergy exams. In the past, health insurance in Texas could exclude coverage for pre-existing conditions, such as asthma. As of September 23, 2010, insurers can no longer bar families from purchasing coverage based on their children's pre-existing conditions. Children can now remain protected by their parents' health insurance until they are 26 if their job doesn't include health care.Texas Health Insurance Offers More To Fight Allergies

Adult allergy sufferers may not get help with their pre-existing conditions until 2014. That's when insurers will be prohibited from excluding coverage for adults' pre-existing conditions. That's also the year that health care reform establishes state exchanges to offer alternative health insurance with low premiums and government help to make it affordable for those with low incomes.

Do You Need Texas Health Insurance Quotes?

To get the increased protection for your children, you may have to purchase a new Texas health insurance plan. If you got a plan before March 22, 2010, health care reform doesn't require it to expand coverage. The federal government has set up insurance search tools you can access on the Internet to help you find plans in your state to cover pre-existing conditions.

It has also created new Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plans for states where no such plans exist. The catch is that you must have gone without health insurance for six months and have been denied coverage based on such a condition.

Here's another reason to get a new plan. Insurance companies are no longer allowed to charge you more for out-of-network emergency services under the newer plans. When anyone is at risk of going into deadly anaphylactic shock, never take time to figure out which emergency room is in-network!

Children Are Getting New Help With Allergies In Northern Texas

Why food allergies are affecting more and more people may not be clear, but there's new help in Texas to understand and manage the danger that allergies present. In northern Texas, Children's Medical Center Dallas is offering new hope for families affected by allergies with the opening of the only academic-affiliated pediatric center that focuses on food allergies. To help with the wide spectrum of allergic diseases, the center provides education and performs research.Texas Health Insurance Offers More To Fight Allergies

This help is timely because the situation appears to be growing worse. According to the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network, we saw a 20 percent increase of food allergies in children between 1997 and 2007. This increase can have dramatic consequences in the public school system, too. Currently, at least one child, on average, is at risk for an allergic reaction to some food in every classroom.

Dr. Drew Bird, who is in charge at the Children's new Food Allergy Center, is focusing on diagnosing food allergies to prevent life-threatening reactions. He's directing the center " to educate the public and the school system and help them to understand what is a food allergy... how do you treat it... how to do you protect our kids so that they're safe."

With this additional help from the government, the medical industry and health insurance agencies, perhaps we can turn the tide on the growing allergy problem. That's good news for thousands of people living in Northern Texas.
