Some General Facts About Rc Trucks

The rising interest on RC trucks makes this hobby more popular around the world

. Though this is an enjoyable hobby, some skills to learn the ropes are a must to get total satisfaction with them. It is easy to get started but be warned that these toys are expensive and you cant afford to find out you dont have the model you truly want, unless you are up to the financing.

Before indulging yourself with the hobby itself, there are few definitions you should acquaint yourself with.

Scale talks about the size of the model kit. A 1/10 scale means 10 times smaller than the actual size; a 1/8 means 8 times smaller. Thus 1/8 scale is bigger than a 1/10 scale which is also bigger than 1/24 scale.

RTR or ready-to-run refers to model kits which are readily available right out of the box. This makes it easier for beginners to get started. There are only a few things to purchase with this like batteries for the control system and nitro fuel for the engine.

The Radio Control System consists of the receiver, transmitter, and servos. The one you hold is the transmitter which sends signals to the receiver and servos. Both of these are mounted on the RC trucks. The servos steer the truck and control the speed using mechanical movement.

RC trucks are also designed with different power sources. For 2-stroke gas/nitro engine trucks, the accessories needed are the truck kit, radio control system, nitro fuel, engine, glow plug igniter, and starter. An RTR usually include the kit, engine and the radio control system. The others have to be purchased separately.

A 2-stroke gas engine uses a special nitro fuel to function. There are different sizes to fit different truck scales. It uses a glow pug instead of a spark plug.

Nitro fuel is used instead of regular gasoline. Nitro fuel is made up of methanol, oil, and nitro methane commonly used for 1/10 and 1/8 scale models. Bigger models like 1/6 scales have lawnmower type engines and regular gasoline is used.

Glow Plug is similar to a spark plug which ignites air/fuel mixture inside the engine.

A glow plug igniter heats up the glow plug by applying 1.5v.

1/28 1/8 scale RC trucks can be powered by an electric motor. The accessories required for this type are the kit, battery pack and charger, and the radio control system. Most RTR come complete with everything needed but some kits do not include the battery pack and charger.

A 7.2v battery pack is commonly used for 1/10 scale trucks. Basic choices are NiMH providing longer run times and NiCad which is cheaper.

Though there are a number of shops keeping RC trucks for sale, hobby quality remote control machines are usually found in hobby shops. If the model you desire cant be found in your local hobby shop then try buying online. There may be few things to consider though such as the brand and availability of the item, reputation and the merchant rating, and the gross delivered price.
