If you still need to be convinced that your dental care should not be waived off for nine months, you should know that there has been at least one reported case that demonstrates that untreated dental problems can and do lead to an anaerobic bacterium of the oral cavity. This in turn is associated with bleeding gums and gum disease and that infection can be transmitted to a full term unborn baby with fatal results for the baby. This may be a rare fluke, but it is also a preventable one and when you measure the risk of receiving dental care while pregnant versus not receiving needed dental care, it's not hard to see which side of the fence your doctor's advice will likely fall on.
Earlier studies from 2006 have backed up the fact that essential dental treatments are safe for expected women in the 13-21 week gestation period. If you fall before or after those time ranges, consult your dentist for advice about what they feel is the safest course of action for you. Your dentist is the best source of advice about your oral health and you are probably not the first pregnant person that they have successfully treated in the course of their career.
Being a good parent starts before the birth by getting good prenatal care, but that means taking care of all of you from your mouth down to your toes, so don't neglect needed dental care just because you're expecting.
