Proper Care And Waxing Tips for Your Boat

Waxing your boat keeps the finish in good condition, protecting it from the damage of the sun's ultraviolet rays and the effects of the maritime damage. This can also helps with fuel efficiency because a slick hull will glide through the water and less drag means less fuel usage. The wax coating should be done two or more times a season depending on the amount of time you spend on the water. Waxing your boat is a much needed project that should be done before putting your vessel up for the winter.

*Hose down the vessel and wash it from top to bottom, bow to stern with a quality marine cleaning product before waxing. Rinse the boat completely and allow the boat to dry thoroughly. Drying all surfaces completely will prevent water spotting, soap scum build up and a dull surface. If you are doing this on a warm day, make sure you wash and dry quickly. Washing this way will prevent water evaporation spots. Don't forget to also clean and polish all metal parts.

*Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions on washing your boat. Apply a paste wax to the surface of the boat with a clean cloth folded into quarters. Use overlapping, circular strokes to ensure complete coverage of the surface. Allow the wax to dry to a dull white finish. If you use an electric buffer, and keep it moving so it does not heat and harm the finish. Or if you plan on doing this by hand then, fold a clean cloth into quarters and begin wiping the dull white polish residue from the boat in a circular, overlapping motion. Turn and refold the cloth frequently to ensure that the cleanest possible surface is used for polishing. A good polish will help protect aluminum and stainless steel hardware from corrosion. From start to finish you can achieve professional results with 3M Marine Wax Products

Washing and waxing your boat should be a regular part of any marine maintenance program.

A proper wax job keeps your boat looking shipshape throughout the year.
