Potty Behavior Training 101: How To Toilet Train Children

In between 18 months to 3 years of a child's life

, parents should be teaching that child toilet etiquette, how to use the toilet, etc. In other words, that kid should undergo potty behavior training. When your toddler exhibits the indicators of being ready to undergo toilet teaching, do not forget to utilize the potty training techniques enumerated and explained below:

When you feel it's time to train your child to potty, the first thing you should do is to talk to your little one and explain what you're about to teach him/her, why it's important to toilet-train your kid, and so on. It is best that your husband or a father figure is the one to show your son proper toilet usage. You, as a mom, on the other hand, should be the one to show your daughter how to use the toilet bowl for urination and bowel movement purposes.

Part of potty behavior training tips is for parents to also use words that are connected to the subject of how to toilet train. For instance, using the words 'pee', 'pee pee', 'poop', 'pooh pooh', in your every day conversation with your child will teach him/her that using the toilet is part of daily life, and shouldn't be something to be embarrassed about.

To train your child to potty, of course, included in potty training techniques is to use a kid's potty chair, which can either be a stand alone chair, or a chair that can be placed over the toilet bowl. It is recommended, however, that you let your kid use a stand alone chair first, which should be low enough for your kid's feet to be able to touch the floor. By using a low potty-chair for your child's potty behavior training, your little one will feel comfortable enough, and won't be afraid or won't hate using the potty-chair.

Another advice on how to toilet train your child is to request your daughter or son to tell you or any adult when he or she needs to pee-pee or pooh-pooh. When your child does that, be sure to either pat him/her at the back, reward, or praise him or her for that behavior. To triumphantly train your child to potty, it is also a must that you know when your precious angel wants to use the bathroom either through facial expressions, movements, and so on.

One of the potty training techniques you should make use of is to let your toddler practice sitting on the potty-chair --- first with clothing, next with only a diapered bottom, then, with no clothes at all. It is highly advisable for you to let your angel do this activity everyday to make him or her comfortable in the toilet.

Successful potty behavior training will only happen if you first learn how to toilet train kids properly. Of course, being patient, sticking to a schedule, utilizing toilet-training tips, etc, will help you train your child to potty in the right way and at a faster rate.
