Nba Tickets - Carmelo Angling For A Trade?

The Denver Nuggets have had a three-year extension that would pay Carmelo Anthony $65 million on the table for approximately two months now

. With the possibility of a new collective bargaining agreement that could end up shrinking player salaries looming, one would think that Anthony would jump at the chance to secure a long-term agreement worth big bucks. However, the perennial All-Star is taking his time in making this decision, fueling speculation that he isn't interested in remaining in Denver and could be angling for a trade to another team.

Anthony is one of the biggest draws for NBA tickets in the entire league. He's a legitimate number one option for an NBA offense and one of the toughest covers in the game. If the Nuggets decided to shop Anthony in an effort to avoid potentially losing him for nothing next summer, there are a number of teams that would immediately come calling. Let's take a look at some teams that would likely enter the bidding for Carmelo's services and what they could potentially offer in return.

New York Knicks: There has been plenty of speculation that Anthony's preferred destination would be New York. The Knicks weren't able to lure LeBron James to the Big Apple this offseason, but landing Anthony would be as good a consolation prize as any. A package that included Danilo Gallinari, Anthony Randolph and Eddy Curry could be attractive to Denver. The Nuggets would get two budding, young players in Gallinari and Randolph, as well as a large expiring contract in Curry. The Knicks would pair Anthony with Amare Stoudemire in their effort to return to prominence.

New Jersey Nets: The Nets could be another destination the Anthony is interested in, considering the franchise's impending move to Brooklyn. The Nets could also offer a solid package, one that includes Troy Murphy, Derrick Favors and Terrence Williams. The Nuggets would get a power forward with a ton of upside in Favors and a young three with potential in Williams. Murphy's expiring contract is a substantial one that would give the team some financial flexibility as well, in addition to giving the team a one-year rental on a productive frontcourt player. The Nets would move forward with a core of Anthony, Brook Lopez and Devin Harris and would likely turn the team around quicker than anyone expected.

Chicago Bulls: The Bulls are another potential destination that has been discussed in the Carmelo rumors. A trade with Chicago wouldn't provide the financial flexibility that the two aforementioned deals would, but they could probably offer the best replacement for Anthony in Luol Deng. Deng is an underrated player that doesn't get a lot of attention in Chicago, but he'd be a solid fit in Denver. Anthony would join a core in Chicago that features Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer. Can you say title contender?

Houston Rockets: The Nuggets would probably be hesitant to trade Anthony to another Western Conference team, but Houston could offer an attractive package. The Rockets could give the Nuggets Kevin Martin, Jordan Hill and Chase Budinger. Denver would get an efficient scorer that gets to the line and could replace a lot of Melo's scoring in Martin, while Hill and Budinger would give the team two youngsters that have shown some promise. Plug Anthony in with Yao, Luis Scola, Courtney Lee and Aaron Brooks and you've got something going in Houston.

Dallas Mavericks: Again the Western Conference issue is in play, but Mark Cuban has a way of making things happen. Dallas could offer Denver massive savings if that's the way they wanted to go while offering a potential star player, as well. The Mavericks could offer Caron Butler, DeShawn Stevenson and Rodrique Beaubois in exchange for Anthony.

Butler would slide right into Carmelo's spot at the three and limit the drop-off in production there, but he's also an eight-figure expiring contract. If he played well, the Nuggets could re-sign him; if not, they could reap the financial benefits. Stevenson would simply be another expiring deal, but Beaubois could be the real prize. He's out with an injury to start the 2010-11 season, but it's his future that has people around the league buzzing. The Nuggets already have a young point guard in Ty Lawson, but Beaubois has shown the ability to play both guard positions. He's an electric player with major scoring potential and could be enough to convince Denver to make the deal.
