Motorcycle Fairing Kit Materials

A motorcycle fairing kit is a set of plates, which is attached to the motorcycle

. Its main purpose is to reduce the drag on the machine which will cause an increase in the speed and a decrease in the consumption of the fuel. This is why many riders have motorcycle fairing and another reason is that is could protect the rider. The rider can be protected from the debris in the air and also protects the engine from any debris. The rider is given wind protection, which will not cause him to have windburn, frostbite, and hypothermia.

Motorcycle fairing kit is usually manufactured and made from different materials. The most common material is the acrylonitrile butadiene styrene plastic which is also known as ABS plastic. This is commonly used for sport bikes and for the production of some aftermarket fairing. This is a strong but light weight which makes it preferred by many manufacturers. The material is stronger compared to other plastics because it is composed of three main, which are the acrylonitrile, butadiene, and the styrene. There two main processes in manufacturing fairing in ABS plastic and this is the injection mold method and the compression method. In the injection mold method, the melted ABS plastic is injected into a mold. A consistency in pressure allows the material not to shrink then it will be cooled down and hardened in the molding. This method gives all the pieces a uniform thickness and a more accurate fit.

Another method is the compression mold wherein the ABS plastic will be preheated and is placed into a heated metal molding. Pressure is the applied to the molding to allow the plastic to take the shape of the molding. Heat and pressure are the main components in the molding process. However, a disadvantage in this process is the results may vary.

Another material used for the motorcycle fairing kit is the fiberglass. Fiberglass or glass-reinforces plastic are woven fibers and are commonly used as reinforcing agent of polymer products. Motorcycle fairings made from fiberglass are usually used in racing motorcycles in race tracks. This material is lighter and stronger than ABS plastic. The advantage of the fiberglass is it can be repaired when damaged by applying the new layer of fiberglass mixed with polymer.

Another material is the carbon-fixed-reinforce polymer which is the lightest among the other materials. However, it is the most expensive material and is mostly used in extreme racing sports.
