How To Keep Your Puppy's Teeth Clean

When you get a new puppy have you noticed how shiny white his teeth are

? Wouldn't it be nice if you can keep those shiny and pearly white canine teeth looking that way for the rest of your dogs life! When pet owners understand why plaque and tartar buildup on dog teeth, they're better equipped for finding this problem and ensuring their dogs live a long and healthy life with respect to dental health.

Wild canines have absolutely no problems with tartar or plaque leg up on their teeth at any point in their lives. Why is that? The reason canines living in the wild have no issues with lack on their teeth is because of their diet. The diet of wild animals consist of raw meat and raw bones. It is, in fact, the chewing of the raw bones that maintains healthy teeth.

Pet owners must not make the mistake in assuming that cooked bones are also healthy for their pets teeth. Although that cooked bones may in fact keep the teeth free from tartar and plaque buildup, they pose a significant health risk because cooking bones makes them brittle and they splinter quite easily and this can be quite dangerous for your dog as he or she swallows them as they can become lodged in their throat.

It may seem surprising to some, but health-conscious pet owners are in the habit of buying raw chicken meat including the bones for their pets. There is nothing whatsoever harmful and feeding dogs raw chicken. Dogs possess the necessary enzymes and bacteria in their stomach and digestive systems to fight off any microbes were diseases the chicken may carry. Humans, on the other hand, of course don't have these protections and must be careful with raw chicken.

So if you are in the position to purchase raw chicken on a regular basis for your young puppy, he or she will greatly appreciate the treat as dogs favor raw meat overcooked meat. And remember, chewing and swallowing Rob owns is nothing like the process of doing the same with cooked bones. Feeding your dog cooked bones is a significant health hazard which has resulted, in fact, in many deaths of pets.

Of course there are commercially available dog toothpaste and gels that pet owners can use to clean dog teeth on a regular basis and thus prevent the build up of dangerous and harmful plaque and tartar on the teeth. This of course takes discipline and time as the pet owner must clean the pet's teeth at the very minimum several times a week.

It's not difficult to maintain proper dental health in canines once the pet owner understands his or her responsibilities for maintaining this important health aspect for their pets.
