How To Introduce Your Teen To Eye Makeup Products
It seems like girls grow up so fast these days
. Where they were once just children until they turned 13, now they're "pre-teens" from eight years on.At some point, you can bet that little girl will start showing an interest in makeup. But as a parent, it's tough to know when the right time is and how to introduce your little lady to the world of makeup.
A good place to start is with eye makeup products. Since young girls don't need much help from foundation and concealer, starting your girl off with a small collection of fun eye makeup products can help her make the transition.
Pre-teens and young teens
Help your daughter pick out a few eye shadow colors she finds appealing. She's still a bit too young for eyeliner and mascara, so shadow is a good eye makeup product to start out with.
Young girls will be attracted to bright colors and maybe even shadows that sparkle a bit. Try to steer her towards something you find acceptable as well. At this age, it's fun to let her experiment a little, but remind her that she'll only be wearing these colors for fun and not for school.
Once you're home from your eye shadow shopping spree, spend some time with her showing her how to apply the shadow. It not only gives you a chance to bond, but it gives you a chance to teach her what looks natural.
Later, show her how to properly take off the eye makeup. Good habits start early!
Ages 14-18
At this age, you've probably learned that you're past the point of teaching your daughter age-appropriate makeup tips. You can only hope to correct bad behavior and start good habits.
Once she's mastered some shadow colors, you can start helping introduce her to eye makeup products like eyeliner and mascara. Show her how to apply the eyeliner and mascara without overdoing it.
Teach her how much eye makeup you believe is appropriate. Most importantly, be sure and help your daughter stick to whatever her school's guidelines are for makeup.
The key is to teach her how to apply makeup that looks natural in the daytime. Step in again later when she's preparing to go on a date or out to a school dance and take your time showing her how to take that look into nighttime but still look like a teenage girl.
