Designing And Constructing Tracks For Rc Trucks

Designing And Constructing Tracks For Rc Trucks

There is really no set rule on how the track for rc trucks should look but just keep in mind to leave space for rc vehicles for turning around corners

. It should have more than 4 to 7 feet of space if planning to race a couple of rc trucks on the track. The track needs to be made accordingly depending on the size of the remote controlled vehicle. 1/5th to 1/10th scale rc vehicles generally require more space and custom design. There are normally three kinds of tracks namely:

Standard: these are tracks with 20 inch lanes making them suitable for micro rc trucks of about 1/24th scale.

Medium: these tracks have 33 inch lanes for smaller remote controlled vehicles. Normally, it fits a 12x14 foot space when made into an oval shape.

Wide: these tracks are suitable for rc vehicles much bigger than normal and have about 44 feet lanes (44 inches). This can be the best bet size or bigger depending on the size of the rc truck.

The above mentioned are sizes people use to build their tracks and one does not have to follow the sizes but just make sure to build tracks and lanes big enough for whatever type of remote controlled vehicle one may be having to race.

Putting the track design to life

It is not that difficult, therefore dont stress about it. When using concrete to flatten and surface and make it smooth, just make an outline of the track by using garden hose which should be thicker compared to regular household garden hose. Its that easy. The hose is super glued to the concrete and thats it; you have a low cost rc racing track for rc trucks. One should make sure he/she has a hot air glue remover to help when wanting to remove the hose from the ground. The option of using plastic piping or wood for an outline is available if you dont want to use garden horse.

Those who do not want to use concrete and re-lay a new floor can use carpet, plywood of garden hose that is thicker than usual, plastic piping and wood. When it comes to plywood, cut the individual pieces of plywood to the shape of the rc track you want to build. Looking at your design, measure out the width, length and corners of the pieces. The cutting out of the corners, jumps and straight-aways should be done separately making sure the measurements are correct. All the pieces of plywood are then super glued together to create a base of the entire rc track. The next thing is to roll out your carpet, cutting the carpet to the shape and size of the base of plywood. A staple gun is used to staple the edges of the carpet to the plywood, making sure you pull real tight on the carpet to avoid rifts or lines in the carpet. The edges of the plywood are then outlined with plastic piping or garden hose by gluing them to the sides of plywood to avoid rc trucks flying off the track.
