Delayed Gratification Is Important To Teach Children

Delayed Gratification Is Important To Teach Children

Children have more expendable money than at any time in the history of the world

. They are paid exorbitant amounts for baby-sitting, lawn mowing, and animal sitting. The pre-teen, tweens, and teen markets are multi-billion dollar a year industries tapping into this vast pool of dispensable money. Children don't have the concept of delayed gratification, which may prove their down fall in later years. Learning to work for something and wait for something are valuable traits that can save thousands of dollars in California bankruptcy courts later in life. Oakland bankruptcy attorneys and Fremont bankruptcy attorneys are overscheduled due to people overspending.

A study was recently concluded where a group of kindergarteners were given three big puffy marshmallows. They were allowed to eat the three marshmallows now or wait five minute and receive three more marshmallows. The group was followed through adolescence into adulthood. The children who had the ability to put off something now for something greater in the future made more money, had more stability, obtained higher education than their instant gratification friends.

Play now and pay later or pay now and play later are your choices when it comes to higher education. All these concepts are interwoven in the choice in life between delayed gratification and instant gratification. Concord, Oakland bankruptcy attorneys are inundated with clients who never learned these valuable lessons as children. It is ok for children to want. It is ok for children to work towards something; it is ok for children to go without every toy, indulgence, and extravagance their little hearts conjure up.

Don't impulse shop. Set a limit, if an item cost more than X amount; write it down and think about it. If you still want it in 3 days, or one week, purchase it then. Impulse buying kills the budget. Budget. Whatever your budget is big or small, write it down and try to stick with it. Often it is better to enter a grocery store with cash and leave the checkbook at home, this eliminates impulse buying.

The world is full of wonderful things to have and obtain, the trick is to be wise stewards of your money. Don't become its slave. Go without, teach children to find joy in things other than money. Being denied every little whim now and again never hurt anyone!
