Though residents of a major American city have known for sometime that the community needs doctors
, it is only recently that they realized that doctors also need the community. In truth, making the community desirable and conducive for working and living is an essential goal when it comes to hiring.Would-be physicians would like to ensure that good schools for their children, a safe neighborhood, good housing and other social opportunities for themselves and their families will be available to them.
When a hospital needs more physicians, this becomes the chief priority among the board of trustees, administration and medical staff. The most successful form of recruitment is through community effort and this is what recruiting hospitals has learned in their experiences. Improvement in some areas of healthcare delivery has been pointed out yet the process of recruitment will continue until such matters have been fixed.
Shortage of competent manpower in the field of medical wellness had long been an issue in the Unites States. A current federal publication has, in fact, defined these rural areas as medically underserved communities.
This has developed a point-rating system for each community, which includes categories such as the population percentage on lowest poverty bracket, percentage of individuals beyond the age of 65, rate of newborn deaths, and lastly, the fraction of primary care doctors against every thousand of the citizens.
The definition of primary care physicians are those who specialize in internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics or obstetrics gynecology only. After this has been determined, the medical staff and board members must agree on what forms of medical services will be prioritized.

Recruiting medical specialists involve a complex process of showing that these physicians have the best of what both the hospital and the community have to offer. Notices and advertisements in major medical publications is the first step in effective hiring as it will reach a wide scope of physicians throughout the country.
Writing letters that are sent to medical colleges can also entice interested medical school graduates or residents. Members of the local community who engage in medical studies are asked to maintain contact while the friends of friends of their local doctors are constantly phoned and contacted.
Upon learning of the doctor's interest, he is invited to tour the town and see the local amenities. The interested physician is treated to a hearty lunch and is sometimes required to stay overnight to allow introduction to the hospital and its staff.
The hospital crew oftentimes go out of their way and offer their homes to throw a party for the potential new physicians while there are other times the orientations only happen in the hospital.
He will be shown the existing support amenities like the radiology and pathology labs, and informed that the hospital is encouraging new specialties and is willing to purchase the needed apparatuses. He is also informed that a continuing education program is available and that the hospital will help him find office space and appropriate insurance coverage.
But the recruiters recognize that they must transcend the medical realm. Physician parents will be introduced to the principal of the school their kids will be transferring to so that they can have a feel of their new environment.
They will be asked to meet with housing agents who will help them find a suitable home as well as local banking authorities that will advise them on loan and mortgage programs The hospital board and their recruitment team's effort might still not be enough.
Even if the hospital team has led the potential recruit, they are still counting on the members of their community to help the doctors by becoming resource persons who are willing to answer politely any questions the recruit might post.
