Cna Personal Hygiene: 7 Things You Should Do

As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) it will be very important for you to maintain personal hygiene of the highest degree

. The main reason for this is that you are working with ailing people whose immunity levels are already low, and if you are not careful you could pass on an infection to them. As a CNA you need to be at all times clean and neat. If you maintain a high standard of hygiene, chances are that you will do the same with your patients.

*You need to make sure that you have a shower every day before going into work. Not only will this keep you feeling fresh during your shift but will keep body odor away. The latter is very important as you will be working in close proximity with patients and do not want them to recoil from any body odor emanating from you.

*You should also avoid wearing any kind of cologne/perfume because some of your patients could have an allergic reaction.

*You would need to make sure you maintain dental hygiene: brush your teeth and make sure your mouth is fresh at all times too.

*You should also keep your hair clean and neat. Tying it away from your face is best as it will not interfere with your duties.

*You should keep your nails short and clean. Long nails will attract dirt which is full of germs and bacteria which can get into cuts and wounds you are dressing. You too could end up carrying away an infection.

*It has now become compulsory for all nursing and medical staff to wear scrubs. Different medical facilities will have different colors and styles for their various staff. Make sure you keep your scrubs clean and neatly ironed at all times.

*CNAs are usually on their feet for most of their working hours. This will lead to back aches and leg muscle pain. It is advisable for you to wear heavy duty stockings to support legs and back, and also sensible, sturdy but comfortable shoes.

You will most probably not have received personal grooming lessons in your CNA training program because you are expected to know that your appearance must be clean and presentable. As you can see, it is very important to maintain high standards of personal hygiene, both to protect yourself from contracting any infections and to give your patients the best possible care.
