Burn Injuries? You May Have A Personal Injury Case

Burn Injuries? You May Have A Personal Injury Case

Did you know that more than 500,000 people go to the doctor for burn related injuries each year

? Most of the time when people think about burns they think that the person who was burned was irresponsible. However, as a lawyer I want to let you know that this may not be the case.

You are grilling up some stir-fry for the family, you reach for the handle of the wok, and before you know it, you are screaming because the handle was extremely hot. You end up receiving second-degree burns to your hand, which do not affect the movement of your hand, but leave a nasty scare. You may be able to file a personal injury suit.

As with all personal injury cases, if you can prove that someone's negligence led to your injury then you may be able to get compensation. In the example above, there may be a class action suit against the pan manufacturer for not meeting product specifications. To give you some examples of other burn cases, I think it is necessary to explain the different burn types.

There are several different types of burns. The most common type is a contact burn. As in the example above, this type of burn comes from coming in contact with something that causes a burn. A common workplace injury is a chemical burn. These types of burns occur when you are exposed to a liquid, usually a strong acid or base, which causes your skin to burn. There are also electric, inhalation and radiation burns. You can be burned by having electricity pass through your body or a part of your body. You can also be burned by inhaling smoke or other fumes. Lastly, you can be burned by exposure to ultraviolet rays; most common cases are sunburns from tanning beds.

There are many aftereffects of burns. Depending on the severity of the burn, you may have anything from a small scare to a complete change in physical appearance. If you think someone's negligence may have caused your injury you should talk to a personal injury lawyer.

I was trying to think about some advice on how to avoid burns, but the only thing that could come to mind was use your common sense. There are situations that are out of your control, but for the other situations make sure to uses caution.

The most important thing to remember is to seek medical attention as soon as the injury occurs. It will be very hard for a personal injury lawyer to prove negligence in your case, if you do not have medical documentation about your injury.
