Auto Insurance: Not Just A State Requirement

Auto Insurance: Not Just A State Requirement

Many states require a certain amount of liability car insurance as a condition of

owning and operating a vehicle on the roads funded by those same states. Carrying liability insurance requires an investment in insurance premiums that many decide that they do not want to bear because it is a burdensome expense or they feel they just do not need it. The fact is the law puts a burden of liability on us whether we choose to purchase insurance or not. Having auto insurance coverage gives us the as-needed assistance to meet the responsibility that we are liable for.

Liability auto insurance provides monetary compensation for damages deemed to be caused by us in an auto accident. The compensation will be paid to the alleged victim for damages to his or her property and for medical expenses they may incur as a result of an auto accident. The amount of compensation to an alleged victim is determined by the insurance company. The maximum amount paid out will be determined by the amount of coverage purchased and as stated in the auto insurance policy. Any additional compensation not covered by the policy will fall on the insured to make up for out of pocket.

While the alleged victim's expenses are covered by a liability insurance policy, the expenses incurred by the insured are not covered. To receive monetary compensation for your vehicle should you cause an accident, you would have to purchase an add-on called comp and collision also known as full coverage insurance. This would allow for repairs to be done to your property in the event of an accident for a smaller deductible amount determined by your full coverage insurance policy. The deductible amount most often chosen with a full coverage insurance policy is five hundred dollars.

You may find yourself in an accident caused by another who does not have insurance or whose coverage amount does not fully cover the amount of damage caused. Purchasing an add-on referred to as uninsured motorist coverage will cover your expenses. This add-on is commonly over-looked or people choose not to opt in for this coverage because it increases the premium amount. It is indeed an added expense but the coverage is one well worth having to ensure that you are not left without a vehicle which many of us rely heavily on for our livelihood. Auto Insurance: Not Just A State Requirement

Liability insurance may be all that is required by your state but having adequate auto insurance can provide additional benefits to you. Insurance premiums may be more costly to you but in the long run the benefits are unmatched. We rely on our automobiles to take us to work and to other places we need to go. If we were to be without a vehicle because of an auto accident it can be a burden to us and our family. Talk to your auto insurance agent to find the right coverage that benefits you best. Get peace of mind knowing you are covered should you find yourself in an auto accident.
