3 Easy Dog Tricks

3 Easy Dog Tricks

When teaching your dog new tricks it is important when he does it right to praise him

. Look for a quiet spot for your training and keep the sessions reasonably short so that boredom dosen't set in. Keep some treats handy and remember to praise him when he gets things right..

Getting your dog to give you his paw.

With your dog in the sitting position take his paw in your hand and say the word "paw', at this point give him a treat and praise him, repeat this a few times so he gets the idea then wait for him to give you his paw or delay taking his paw when using the command.. After 2 or 3 sessions most dogs pick this one up quite happily.

The high five, like a lot of tricks the high five is a progression of an earlier trick, in this case the paw trick. Holding your hand higher than before hold a treat in your fingers.. You dog will think you want to do the paw trick and will reach for the treat with his paw as we taught him earlier, as he reaches up you say high five and give him the treat. You can train your dog to do this trick in a very short time once he has mastered the paw trick..

Getting your dog to jump through a hoop.

Obviously only hold the hoop at a height that your dog can achieve as we don't want any injuries ..

Sit your dog on one side of a hoop and get the dogs attention focused on your hand on the other side of the hoop. With a treat in your hand callyour dog to you encouraging him to go through the hoop, its quite likely he will go round rather than through the hoop but if this happens position yourself as before and try again,he wants the treat so this will not take too long..

When he does say hoopla (or a command of your choice)and give him the treat. He will soon be jumping through the hoop on the command of hoopla.

My dog which is a medium size dog started with the hoop a couple of inches from the ground which I then slowly raised as he became more confident but i never have it too high as it should be fun for your dog not a struggle..
